Authority and Mission
Aiken Technical College has contracted with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office to provide a deputy on campus. The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with ATC is committed to providing professional services to the ATC community. Our effectiveness is largely dependent upon the assistance and cooperation of everyone in our campus community. ACSO Deputies, Contracted Campus Security Officer(s), administration, faculty, and staff members strive to promote open communication and to maintain an atmosphere of courtesy, fairness and concern.
Contracted Campus Security Officer(s) on campus are appointed and commissioned as State Constables by the Governor of the State of South Carolina. They are empowered to enforce the laws of South Carolina with statewide jurisdiction and arrest powers. Contracted Campus Security Officer(s) are licensed by the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and have the same powers of arrest as any deputy in the performance of their duties on Aiken Technical College property.
The safety and well being of our community members are always at the top of our agenda. A safe campus can only be achieved through the cooperation of our campus community as a whole. The majority of crimes on campus are crimes of opportunity. The willingness of our campus population to secure their property and to report suspicious activity is essential to the prevention of these thefts. Our goal is to prevent crimes from occurring and to respond and provide assistance once a crime has occurred.
