Four Former Knights Return for Peach Belt Tournament
Sunday, March 09, 2008

If Coach Bruce Capers' smile is full of pride, it's not just because the Aiken Technical College Knights just earned their second straight title in the Region 10 basketball tournament in Wilmington, NC.

No, this smile has extra wattage because later this week Coach Capers will watch four of his former players compete in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament hosted by USC Aiken.

Among the players will be Corey Johnson (combo guard, team of 2006) and Franchot Brown Jr. (forward, team of 2006), both of whom now play for Armstrong Atlantic University; Bernard (BJ) Fields (combo guard, team of 2007), who now plays for Clayton State University; and Shondre Guest (guard/forward, team of 2007), who now plays for Columbus State University.

"I'm planning to see them play," Coach Capers said. "I'm very proud. This is what you want to see. Aiken Technical College is the training ground for them to go on and do well at the next level, not just in basketball, but in continuing their educations."

The Peach Belt Conference is a NCAA Division II Conference. The tournament will begin Wednesday, March 5 at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.
