Pre-Engineering Academy - Frequently Asked Questions
 
Who is eligible to apply?
Highly motivated high school juniors may apply.
Is there any financial assistance available?
Lottery Tuition Assistance (LTA) is available when a student takes 6 credit hours within 1 semester. Its value has the effect of taking 2 courses and paying for one. Students still pay for books and any applicable fees.
What are some of the advantages of participating in the program?
Students get a jump start on their college courses, earn a Pre-Engineering Certificate upon successful completion of the program, earn both high school and college credit through the Dual Enrollment Program, prepare themselves for academically challenging engineering programs in other colleges, & prepare themselves for engineering disciplines including electrical, mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, and civil engineering.
What courses will I take?
Students will take a total of 26 credit hours of courses in Engineering courses like Fundamentals of CAD (Computer Assisted Design), Engineering Technology, Computer Integrated Manufacturing & Digital Electronics, plus advanced math courses like Calculus, and core courses like American Government and Macroeconomics.
Will credits transfer to other schools?
Some general education course credits will transfer. However it is always best to check with a school you may wish to attend to learn about their transfer policies.
How long will it take to complete the program?
The program is organized to be completed in two school years—along with completing graduation requirements for a student’s junior and senior years.
Where will I take the courses?
Courses will be offered at ATC and the Career Center. They will be arranged to accommodate your high school course schedule. Junior year courses will include high school students only; senior year courses will include both high school and ACT college students.
