We’re excited to recognize your accomplishments, and we look forward to celebrating this special day with you and your families!
Students who plan to participate in the May 6 ceremonies must attend rehearsal on May 5 at 11 a.m. in the gym. There is no need to bring your regalia to rehearsal.
ALL regalia must be picked up from the bookstore by May 5 at 5 p.m. Regalia pickup will not be available on graduation day.
Where to Meet and What to Bring on Commencement Day
  • Arrive at the 900 Building classrooms on Tuesday by 2:00 p.m. (for the 3:00 p.m. ceremony) or 6:00 p.m. (for the 7:00 p.m. ceremony).
  • Bring your regalia, as well as any bobby pins or safety pins that you may need.
Note: Wear shoes that are acceptable for a formal ceremony, but comfortable and broken in so you don’t fall.
  • Bring your name cards (given out during rehearsal)!
If you have a name that is difficult to pronounce, please see us on rehearsal day to ensure that your name is pronounced properly.
Before the Ceremony
  • Check the lists outside the 900 Building classrooms for your program of study. If you are unsure of where to go, find the information table outside the 900 building classrooms.
  • Complete a questionnaire provided by ATC staff or volunteers.
  • Line up inside the classrooms in twos by alphabetical order as listed in the program. Do not leave valuables behind in the classroom unattended.
During the Ceremony
  • During the processional, you will be directed to walk in slowly with your tassel on the right and the mortarboard (graduation cap) parallel to the floor.
  • Marshals will direct you to your seats.
  • At your seat, remain standing until after the presentation of the colors, national anthem and invocation.
  • Men, remove your caps for the national anthem and keep them off until after the prayer.
  • At the appropriate time, you will walk up to the stage area (on the right side). Hand your name card to the reader, who will read your name and the credential(s) you are receiving.
  • Walk across stage to receive your credential cover and to shake hands with those on stage.
  • Walk back to your seat.
  • During the recessional, marshals will direct you by twos all the way to the back doors (KEEP MOVING all the way to the reception area).
Other Helpful Details
  • Parking: Advise your family and friends to arrive early and park with the exit in mind. The parking area for those with handicapped parking permits is beside the 700 building (cul-de-sac).
  • Seating: Late arrivers will be required to wait outside the gym until an appropriate stopping time, and will be seated in the back bleachers during the ceremony. Please encourage your guests to arrive early to avoid missing the beginning of the ceremonies. Seating for those with disabilities will be behind faculty on the left side of gym.
  • Mobile devices: No cell phones/pagers will be allowed.
  • Restrooms: Use the restrooms next to the cafeteria in the 900 Building prior to the beginning of the lineup.
  • Applause: Tell family members and friends to refrain from shouting or using noise makers so others can have their name heard. Eruptions of applause and/or shouting during the ceremony is disrespectful.
  • Leaving: After the ceremony, use exits in both lanes as directed by those helping direct traffic at the exits. If traveling toward Aiken, the exit is the one at the top of the hill. If traveling toward North Augusta/Augusta, the exit is the one by the pond at the front of campus.
  • Mailing credentials: Certificates, diplomas, and/or degrees completed in the spring term will be mailed to you within 6–8 weeks (after grades have been verified).
  • Photographs: Prior to the ceremony, photos can be taken until time for the processional. During the ceremony, photos can be taken from stage left behind the line on floor. There will be a professional photographer to take a picture of graduates in caps and gowns before or after the Commencement ceremony. Appointments can be made in the ATC Bookstore or on a walk-in basis with the photographer on May 6.
  • Video: A video of the graduation ceremony will be available approximately 6-8 weeks after the ceremonies.
  • Bookstore: The Bookstore will be open.
  • Valuables: Make sure you leave no valuables in the classrooms. The classroom doors are not locked during the ceremonies.
During the event, marshals/staff will be available to answer your questions. If you have any questions prior to Commencement, please contact Anna Dolianitis, Communications/Public Relations Coordinator, at or (803) 508-7477.
