Aiken Technical College Recognizes 2014-2015 Graduates

(May 6, 2015, Aiken, SC) Aiken Technical College recognized its 2015 graduates at two commencement ceremonies on Tuesday.

Between the two ceremonies, ATC recognized 425 graduates who—as a collective—earned a total of 510 degrees, diplomas, and certificates.

Graduates of ATC’s Business, Computer Technology and Training, General Education and Nursing programs were recognized at the 3 p.m. ceremony. Graduates of the College’s Allied Health Sciences and Technical Education programs were recognized at the 7 p.m. ceremony.

“I recognize that your studies have not been without sacrifice.  However, these sacrifices were not without great reward,” said ATC President Dr. Susan Winsor as she addressed the graduates. “The credentials you have earned and the hard work, determination, and expertise that they represent will be the foundation on which you build a career, gain standing in your communities, and raise a family.”

The ceremonies’ speaker Richard Allen, Senior Vice President of Operations & Quality Assurance for Centerra Group, LLC, shared his childhood story of overcoming challenges and developing the content of his character. He urged the students to think positively wherever they go and to not sucome to context barriers, but value content over context.

“Continue to forge ahead,” Allen said. “Climb every mountain and remember to focus on the destination and not the location.”

Allen has been with Centerra Group for 15 years and was appointed to his current position in July 2010. He has more than 35 years of experience, leading security, safety, fire and emergency services, and quality assurance programs. He holds a Master of Science in Public Administration Management from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from North Carolina A&T State University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and Cornell University’s Executive Financial Management Program and a proud service disabled veteran who has earned numerous military decorations including the Air Force Legion of Merit.

During the Commencement ceremonies Tuesday, ATC also honored two of its most highly-dedicated employees for their service. Business Department Chair Lee Hunt was recognized as 2015 Faculty Member of the Year, and Information Systems Management Director Walter Busbee received the 2015 Staff Member of the Year award. The award winners were nominated by their peers and selected by an appointed committee.
