ATC Named a ’2016 Military Friendly School’
(November 9, 2015, Aiken, SC) Aiken Technical College (ATC) has been recognized for the fifth consecutive year as a“Military Friendly School” by Victory Media.
Post secondary schools are rated based on several criteria including academic credibility, support for student veterans on campus, career outcomes, flexibility, and military student body composition, according to Victory Media.
“This designation demonstrates our College’s continued commitment to providing support for our veterans and their families as they pursue a higher education degree,” said ATC President Dr. Susan Winsor.“Victory Media’s announcement comes on the heels of the recent unveiling of our new Veteran Scholarship and Support Program. Through this program, we will be able to add to the many resources our College already offers.”
The Veteran Scholarship and Support Program will begin in the Spring 2016 semester and is being funded through a $25,000 Fluor Military Support Coalition Grant from the Fluor Foundation. The program will provide Veteran Success Grants to eligible veteran and military students to assist with cost of living expenses; peer mentoring by Veteran’s Ambassadors to student veterans; career information sessions; and upgrades to the Veterans’ Lounge located in the ATC Student Activities Center.
ATC also offers several other opportunities including the Veterans to Careers initiative, a partnership with Aiken-Augusta Warrior Project to connect veterans and their skill sets and knowledge to local careers in growing industries. The partnership is furthered by an on-campus presence of an Aiken-Augusta Warrior Project representative.
The College’s Student Veterans Association chapter provides activities for student veterans and military family members to fellowship, network and share information about community resources.
