Continuing Education: Veterinary Assistant Course

The veterinary assistant course will be held September 10 through November 26 with classes being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. The cost for the course is $595.

The veterinary assistant course provides students with the skills needed to interact with clients and their animals, assist the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician during exams, administer medications and perform other basic animal healthcare duties.

Students will learn:

  • Correct restraint positions
  • Common sites for blood collection
  • Obtaining temperature, plus and respiration
  • Prescriptions
  • Basic anatomy of dogs and cats
  • Administering medications
  • Frequent medical problems
  • Animal dental procedures
  • Receptionist duties
  • Radiological duties
  • And more.

The course requires 102 hours, including 30 hours in off-campus clinical training and several Saturday field trips.
