More Than $75,000 in Scholarships Available for New Aiken Technical College Students

Scholarship application deadline July 1

(May 26, 2015, Aiken, SC) The Aiken Technical College (ATC) Foundation will award more than $75,000 in scholarships for the 2015-16 school year, and applications are needed by July 1.

“We’re helping students in the community pursue their goal of higher education. Aiken Tech is a good value and with the scholarships, we can help students’ meet their financial needs,” said Mary Commons, director of the ATC Foundation.

The foundation recently announced it will award 25 $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors enrolling at ATC this fall as part of the college’s Within Reach initiative. The initiative is a joint effort between ATC and the Aiken County Public School District to increase the number of Aiken County students enrolled in college.

Also among new scholarships is the Roland & Peggy Smith Scholarship for 2015 graduates of Midland Valley and Silver Bluff high schools. Twenty $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to those enrolling at ATC this fall.  Many other scholarships are available, including some scholarships for students entering specific fields such as welding and criminal justice.

A number of scholarships are also available for current ATC students based on financial need, program of study, and involvement in the community.

With a combination of scholarships, South Carolina Lottery Tuition Assistance and ATC’s affordable cost, a student can pay for most, if not all, of their tuition and fees for the fall semester.

Aiken Technical College Names Its 2020-21 SCTEA Educators of the Year Honorees

Aiken Technical College (ATC) has named its 2020-21 South Carolina Technical Education Association Educator of the Year award recipients.

The awards recognize employees throughout the South Carolina Technical College System who have contributed to furthering the System’s mission and have done outstanding work in their roles at their colleges.

Area employers are invited to participate in the SC Technical College System Virtual Career Fair on Tuesday, April 20. The career fair will provide employers with an opportunity to interact with technical and community college students from around the state, including Aiken Technical College.

Aiken Technical College, University of South Carolina Aiken to Host Virtual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration Event

Aiken Technical College and the University of South Carolina Aiken will present the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration on Sunday, January 24 at 3 p.m. virtually via the institutions’ Facebook and YouTube pages.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Benedict College President Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis, who will speak on Dr. King’s quote, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” the theme for the 2021 event.
