Underwater Welding Demonstration to be held Sept. 28
Aiken Technical College’s student chapter of the American Welding Society will host a live underwater welding demonstration on Thursday, Sept. 28 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Center for Energy and Advanced Manufacturing (1700 building).
The presenter and demonstrator for the event is Jim Lamirande, an associate professor at Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Kentucky. He is also a welding specialist with North America Production Support Center of Toyota Motor Manufacturing plan in Kentucky, teaching in the tool and die welding, stamping, and plastic department.
He is a certified PADI and SSI scuba diver and he attended training for commercial diving and weld inspection with the Ocean Corporation in Houston, Texas.
Lamirande is the president of the American Welding Society Lexington Section 181 and a U.S. Navy veteran.
The event is open to the public. The admission fee is $5 per person and free for ages 12 and under. Proceeds benefit ATC’s student chapter of the American Welding Society.
