Aiken Tech receives donation from Leadership South Carolina class to support food pantry

Leadership South Carolina Class of 2026 recently donated funding to the Aiken Technical College Foundation, as well as other technical colleges around the state, to help address food insecurity among college students.

The initiative is part of the class’s statewide From Tree to Table initiative. The project focused on planting 250 trees around the state and raising funds to directly address food insecurity for South Carolinians pursuing education and economic mobility. The leadership class raised $62,000 for the initiative.

“Through their project From Tree to Table, Leadership South Carolina’s Class of 2026 brought people together to invest in our state,” said Jody Jernigan, executive director of Leadership South Carolina. “The project strengthened our state parks while supporting technical college students facing food insecurity across South Carolina, reflecting who we are and creating lasting opportunity. We invite those who are passionate about South Carolina’s future to get involved with Leadership South Carolina and be part of this important work.”

At Aiken Tech, the funds will support the Knights Corner Food Pantry, which provides students with food assistance in a shopping-style environment to address their needs.

“Our students are able to succeed academically, personally, and professionally when they receive the comprehensive support they need. This generous gift allows students to focus on their studies and persist in college without the constant worry of meeting basic needs,” said Crystal Edwards, dean of student success and retention.
