Hope Wetherington earns 2026 Buck Grant Award

Hope Wetherington was awarded the 2026 Buck Grant Award during Awards Night.  The George H. “Buck” Grant Award is the highest student award given at Aiken Technical College. Wetherington was recognized for her exceptional academic achievement, professionalism, leadership, and commitment to excellence. 

“Receiving the Buck Grant Award was honestly really surprising and exciting. I feel incredibly grateful to have my hard work and achievements recognized. It’s an amazing feeling to know that not only was my effort seen, but that it was also rewarded,” Wetherington said. 

In May, she graduated with an Associate of Applied Science in Radiation Protection Technology. Known for her strong academic performance and professionalism, she was also selected by Savannah River Nuclear Solutions as a Limited Service Employee before beginning her internship.

“What kept me motivated during my time here was wanting a better future for myself. I want to have a nice home, give my dogs a yard to play in, and leave something behind for my niece someday. Those goals helped me stay focused, work hard, and make good grades so I could be successful in my future career,” Wetherington said.

She added advice for anyone considering enrolling at Aiken Tech. Wetherington said if a student is willing to work hard and stay focused, the experience will pay you back for all the time and effort you invest. 

“She has distinguished herself through superior performance in both the classroom and laboratory while already demonstrating the accountability, technical competence, and composure of an early career professional,” said Chad Crumbaker vice president of academic affairs and workforce innovation.
