Technical Requirements

Computer Skills and Availability

In order to successfully participate in online and hybrid courses, students must have basic skills in personal computer operation. These skills include:

  • Word processing
  • Sending and receiving email, including file attachments
  • Using a web browser, including searching for information and downloading files

Personal computer problems are not valid reasons for failure to meet course requirements. Students encountering problems with their personal computers can use computers in labs on the College campus to access online courses.

Minimum Computing Tools

In order to take an online, hybrid online, or web-enhanced course students must have access to the following minimum computing tools:

  • Windows 10 / 11 or OS X 10.15 (Catalina) or higher
  • Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari web browser
  • Broadband internet connection
  • Word processing software Note: Instructors may request that specific file types are used for assignments
  • Ability to install course-specific hardware or software

College-Provided Tools

MyATC Portal

The MyATC Portal is a one-stop shop for students to access all of the information you will need during your academic career at ATC. You may access MyATC from any device using your MyATC Portal username and password to log-on.

Email and Office 365

Aiken Technical College students have access to email and Microsoft Office, both on the web and through mobile apps. Microsoft also provides Multi-Factor Authentication to help keep our students’ accounts secure. Students may also install Office on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 smartphones.

Blackboard

Blackboard is the digital classroom, where students receive and submit assignments, take part in class discussions, and watch lecture recordings. It’s available on the web from the MyATC Portal and also as a mobile app.
