Students to Showcase Math Skills in MATHCOUNTS Competition

(February 8, 2017, Aiken, SC)— Aiken Technical College the host site for the annual MATHCOUNTS regional competition organized by the Aiken Chapter of the South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers.
 
The event will be held Saturday, Feb. 11 from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. with activities taking place in the College’ Student Activities Center gymnasium (900 building) and the amphitheater (700 building). Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. in the gymnasium.
 
More than 100 area middle school students will gather to compete for an opportunity to advance to the MATHCOUNTS state and national competitions.
 
Students will compete in several rounds including: a sprint round—students work to complete 30 math problems in 40 minutes; a target round—students individually work to complete four pairs of math problems with six minutes to solve each pair; a team round—teams of four work to complete 10 math problems in 20 minutes; and a countdown round—students are challenged to solve each math problem within 45 seconds. Participants cannot use a calculator in the sprint and countdown rounds.
 
Participants and winners will be recognized around 2 p.m. The top teams and individuals from Saturday’s event will advance to the state competition in March.
 
This is the College’s 12th year as the host site for the annual MATHCOUNTS regional competition.

Annual ATC Career Fair to be held April 12

Aiken Technical College will have its annual Career Fair on Wednesday, April 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Student Activities Center gymnasium. This event is free and open to the public.
