State Licensure Disclosure

Aiken Technical College has determined that the following programs meet, or do not meet, the educational requirements for state licensure or certification in the following states, as indicated below. (Note that beyond the completion of a program that meets the educational requirements for licensure, there might be additional state-level exams, physical exams, or other local requirements for licensure.):

The Associate Degree Nursing and the Practical Nursing programs at Aiken Technical College prepare graduates to take the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN licensure examinations in order to become licensed to practice as a PN or ADN in South Carolina.  South Carolina is a member of a multi-state Nursing Licensure Compact that allows licensure in any state that is a member of the compact.  The states in the compact are:

Requirements for applying for multi-state licensure are:

  1. Primary residency in a NLC state listed above;
  2. You must be actively licensed as a registered nurse (RN) or professional nurse (PN);
  3. You must meet all licensure requirements in your state of residency and practice.

Students who complete the Emergency Medical Technician and/or the Paramedic program at ATC are eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) examination.  By passing the appropriate examination, individuals will be considered nationally-registered and eligible for licensure in South Carolina.  In addition to national certification, an individual’s state of residence or location may have its own certification examinations, registration and/or licensing requirements.  It is undetermined whether graduates of the EMT/Paramedic program at ATC are qualified to sit for the national registry examination in states other than South Carolina and GeorgiaPlease note that GA has a separate state examination that must be passed in addition to the NREMT.

Instructors are SC Certified Paramedics who have completed a 40-hour instructor course and are approved by SC DHEC. The instructors are also required to be BLS instructors approved by American Heart Association, American Red Cross or ASHI.

Graduates of the Patient Care Technician program at Aiken Technical College are eligible to take the Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A), Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), Certified EKG Technician (CET).  Additionally, students who successfully complete the program are eligible to take the registry examination for Nurse Aids (CNA).  The certifying examinations for ECG and Phlebotomy are recognized by all states except California.  For the requirements in California, see https://www.ncctinc.com/certifications/pt or https://www.ncctinc.com/certifications/pct.

Successful completion of the Radiologic Technology program at Aiken Technical College makes students eligible to take the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) certification examination.  All 50 states require, at a minimum, a passing score on this examination.  Many states also have state licensure, which may require additional examinations and/or other items for application to be licensed in a particular state.  The Radiologic Technology program at ATC prepares students for licensure in South Carolina, as well as Georgia and North Carolina.
