Applications Being Accepted for WORC Scholarships

(July 11, 2016, Aiken, SC) Aiken Technical College is now accepting applications for more than $64,000 worth of scholarships.

Majority of the scholarships are being funded by the Workforce Opportunities in Regional Careers (WORC) grant recently awarded to the College by the U.S. Department of Energy-Office of Environmental Management and the National Nuclear Security Administration. The grant will allow the College to build upon existing programs and develop new programs to address workforce needs of the area’s nuclear industry.

The grant also provides funds for academic scholarships for qualifying students enrolled in one of the following programs: radiation protection technology, nuclear quality systems, nuclear fundamentals, welding, industrial maintenance or electronics engineering. Selected recipients will receive a $2,000 scholarship for the 2016-17 school year.

Current and prospective students may apply for scholarships online through July 29. Current students must have at least a 2.5 GPA and commit to volunteering five hours in the Academic Success Center as a tutor or as a mentor with the POST ChalleNGe program.

New students enrolling for fall 2016 must have at least an applied technology score of four and provide a summary of their work or volunteer experience.

Additional, unrelated scholarships are also available through the Aiken Technical College Foundation: $409 Francis Smothers Memorial Book Scholarship for early education program students; $1,000 Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken County Scholarship for expanded duty dental assisting program students; two- $2,500 Thomas Truitt, DMD Memorial Scholarship for expanded duty dental assisting program students; and two-$250 scholarships for current criminal justice students.

To apply for all available scholarships, prospective students should visit atcf.awardspring.com/prospective/signin. Current students should apply at atcf.awardspring.com.
