New apprenticeship partnership creates pathway for career in project controls

Aiken Technical College’s new apprenticeship partnership with local small business WesWorks, LLC aims to develop the skills of future project control professionals.

“WesWorks has partnered with Aiken Technical College and Apprenticeship Carolina to launch an apprenticeship program for project controls at the Savannah River Site, offering hands-on training with WesWorks and coursework at Aiken Technical College in Primavera P6, Excel, and Project Controls Fundamentals,” said Aiken Tech’s School of Technical and Continuing Education Dean Dr. Steven Simmons.

Those selected for the Project Controls Apprenticeship program will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and monitoring.

Activities will include assisting in the development and maintenance of project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports, assisting with project data analysis, preparing and presenting project status reports under the guidance of senior professionals, and gaining experience with project management tools and systems.

Applications for the program's initial cohort are being accepted through June 30. Those interested should email their resumes and a brief statement outlining their interest and qualifications to rebecca@wesworksllc.net.

To be considered for the opportunity, applicants must be a United States citizen, be at least 19 years old as of May 30, 2024, and successfully pass background and drug tests.

Additional criteria include:

  • Have an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree and two years of experience OR a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • College coursework in business administration, engineering, finance, or related field is a plus
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong interest in pursuing a career in project controls
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to work effectively in a team
  • environment
  • Eagerness to learn and develop new skills
