Expanded Duty Dental Assisting Instructor since 2018
Aiken Technical College was my first base. In 1995 when I walked into the dental assisting program, I told my then instructor, Amy Capers (Johnson), that I would love to take over her position someday. Who would have thought that 23 years later, she would call me and tell me that she was retiring and asked if I was ready to “come home”? Making a difference in students’ lives makes me excited to come to work each day. Training individuals to become protégés of myself is very rewarding. The College has a mock lab for the students to get real-life training, and my colleagues are always very helpful, encouraging, and supportive.
The College has excellent marketing strategies and makes the community aware that they should acknowledge our College before choosing other colleges. ATC is heavily involved with community events and greatly supports our community, especially helping to provide local industry with graduates who are workforce ready. Through this and the College’s other partnerships within the community, ATC proves that it stands by the words in its vision and mission statements.
ATC was my start, my community college, now my home.
