Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Paramedics provide the most advanced care of all EMS professionals and our hands-on training prepares graduates for the real-world challenges of this career.

A paramedic must be able to provide pre-hospital emergency care in a variety of situations, know how to triage, and be able to give continuing care while en route to an emergency medical facility.

Aiken Technical College’s associate degree program prepares students to make advanced level assessments, stabilize patients, and provide emergency transportation for sick and injured people.

Because of the high-pressure challenges faced by paramedics, our program puts emphasis on both the skills and the leadership abilities needed in unpredictable environments. Training takes place in simulation labs, through clinical practice and in traditional classroom settings.

The Aiken Technical College Paramedic program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP Executive Office). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation Standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.
