The operating room is a fast-paced, highly coordinated environment where patient safety depends on a skilled, collaborative team. Surgical Technologists play a key role by preparing the sterile field, managing instruments and technology, and supporting the surgical team throughout each procedure. Their work helps ensure surgeries are performed safely and efficiently across a range of settings, from routine procedures to complex cases.
Aiken Technical College’s surgical technology program prepares students for this hands-on role through a combination of classroom learning, lab training, and clinical experience. Students build a foundation in areas such as anatomy, microbiology, and surgical procedures, then apply their skills during clinical rotations alongside experienced surgical teams.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification examination administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), positioning them for career opportunities in hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, and specialty surgical settings.
